For folks who've been snoozin' in a mill fer the last five years, August is Month a' the Chicken.

I started this cracked idea of having a month peppered with all things chicken five years ago. This year will be our sixth. Even in our first year, more than just the Bounders offered events. Ales n' Tales at Sandson's Farm was one of our first non Bounder sponsored events in the month. They've done it every year since as well. More fine folks have added their own feather brained offerings over the years, and the MatC has turned into something I never imagined possible five years ago.

Mama Hen has generously offered to host one of her Free Range runs on the last Saturday of the month on August 29th. (She did tell y'all about this, right?)

As the MatC co-ordinator fer Mayor Whitfoot, I am wrapping up my preliminary announcement that I'll be posting anywhere I can without fear of breaking a law, and I hope t' have that done by the end 'a this week.

So stay tuned! I'll be posting up a copy right here on these very bulletins once they're ready.

If that means it's time for another Great Chicken Run, I'm looking forward to it. After a Rift run, it'll be nice to do something comparatively short! ;)

I will be posting the current schedule for MotC this week. Due to the hub-bub over server transfers (and some RL busy stuff) I've fallen a bit behind in posting.

Our first event will be on Fryday the 7th at 9pm (/servertime). It will be our annual Fish n' Chicks Night in Overhill by the "lovers pond". We'll be fishing, dancing, musicking, chatting and eating chicken and fish dishes.

Roz, could you please send me a post in game with the details for the Sunday event we discussed today? I think I got everything noted in the chatlog I was running, but I haven't had time to check it to make sure. I do have the time and day noted on my calendar. I just need a sentence or two describing the event for when I put it on the announcements. Thankies in advance.

A query for all CH folks: I forgot to ask if for one of your pub nights this month, would you mind possibly billing it as a "bring your chicken to the Bird" party? Folks can wear a chicken-y outfits or bring their pet chicken. It would be awesome if folks are ok with it, and if folks aren't, that's fine too :) . Maybe on the 13th or 20th? Just let me know.

That sounds absolutely fantastic!! How about the 20th?

We can even do some chicken-themed games. I'll have to think over it.

I'll send you a mail about the Sunday Amon Hen run.

Super! I've made a note. The schedule will be out most likely sometime today (Tuesday). I might not get to all the kin sites I usually post to until Wednesday, but it'll definitely be posted on the Landy forums today.

And I got your post in game. Thankies!

Yep, the rumors are true! This year is our 6th Annual Month a' the Chicken celebration in the Shire and Beyound!

After all the sad goings on in other parts a' our world, Mayor Whitfoot is hoping that this year's offerings will give some folks a spring in their step that might have been missin' a late. As folks have come t' eggspect, we have a whole brood of events t' offer alreadies, and more will be added to this notice when details are firmed up as well as yer Auntie's best hard-boiled egg.

A'course, we'll be crackin' out some old favorites like Ales n' Tales at Sandson's Farm and our Fish n' Chicks Fry, as well as hatching some new events with our longest and most perilous chicken race ever that's sure t' raise some tail feathers, and one adventure that's sure t' please the Free Rangers amongst us.

Since we already had an official chicken camp this Spring, this year we're only be offerin' some spot camp slots here and there when requested. If yer a chicken trainer that's never been t' Farmer Sandson's, do let us know and we'll set ya right up so's yer chicken is ready for our annual run to Rivendell as well as our returning Free Range run which will be guided by Mama Hen.

T' help us celebrate the month in style, please feel free to wear Cloaks of the Cluck, sport some shiny Hobnanigan duds, or flaunt yer Farmer's Faire attire in celebration throughout the month! Ya can even carry an egg basket about, or simply uncoop yer prized chickens and that'd be swell too.

One note that must be made, given the split of the Carrier Pidgeons Unions in the Shire, if ya attend an event at Sandson's Farm, and it seems no one is there, jes holler out and we'll send a guide t' find ya.**

All events are posted in Bywater Time.* If ya have any related queries, please feel free t' contact me here or via the Quick Post (Daffodilia).

Month a' the Chicken Schedule:

FryDay-Sunday, August 7-9th, all day, all night! HOBNANIGANS!: Some find it quite the controversial sport, some enjoy it despite the controversy.

FryDay, August 7th, 9pm: Fish n' Chicks Night: An annual tradition where both fried fish and chicken dishes will be served. Bring yer fishin' pole, bring a song t' play, bring a friend! Meet in Overhill by the lovelorn pond.

Monday, August 10th, 9:30pm: Ales n' Tales at Sandson's Farm: Special songs! Daring Barn Feats! Musicks and dancin' and tails!

Wednesday, August 12th, 9pm: Chickers n' Seekers: Seekers need to find Hidden Chickens! Meet at the Three Farthing Stone.

Saturday, August 15th, 2pm: Green Eggs Camp: Remnant will be hosting a Chicken Camp to help out fledgling trainers and chickens take their first tenantive steps into the wider world. Meet at Sandson's Farm.

Saturday, August 15th, 8pm: Chicken Parade to Market: Bring yer chicken(s) along as we parade from Sandson's Farm t' the SoNs Market in Bree.

Sunday, August 16th, 1:30pm: Flying the Coop: North Downs Camp: Remnant will help guide chickens through the dangers that lurk close to the roads as they make their way to the eastern side of the North Downs. Meet at Sandson's Farm.

Wednesday, August 19th, 8pm: Chicken Races: This year young Meadowlark has devised some devious routes through the Shire for racing chickens to navigate as fast as their fleet feet can manage! Meet at Sandson's Farm.

Thursday, August 20th, 8:30pm: Bring Yer Chick t' the Burd: A special Concerning Hobbits Pub Party at the Burd n' Baby.

Fryday, August 21st, 9pm: Lovecraftian Tales Story Night: The usual 2nd Fryday Story Night has been moved closer to a very special birthday. (Will there be eerie Mathoms, I wonder?) Frightful tales, shocking ballads and dreadful stories will be told at Toad Marsh in Buckland.

Sunday, August 23rd 1pm: They're Taking the Hens to Amon Hen!: Come along for a semi-informal (but very dangerous) chicken run to Amon Hen, in Eastern Rohan! Join an adventure to places few chickens dare to tread. Hosted by Concerning Hobbits, and led (to a safe end we hope) by Mama Hen. Meet at Sandson's Farm. Free Range unlocks are recommended (for the extended 8-hour timer), although any chickens are welcome to come along for as long as their timers permit.

FryDay, August 28th 9pm: Safe by Day, Trolls by Night: Rivendell bound. Meet at Sandson's Farm. Chicken Tender Daffodilia will be helping Trainers, additional Chicken Tenders and Wingchicks will be available to act as guards and guides.

Saturday, August 29th, 5pm: Crosser of Roads: The second year Concerning Hobbits has offered to lead chickens who must range free! This event is for folks who have earned a Golden Chicken and wish to gain the coveted title of "Crosser of Roads". Not fer the faint of heart! But don't worries, Mama Hen will lead the way. Meet at Sandson's Farm.

Sunday, August 30th, 2:30/3pm: Chickengard: The Courserrim folk will be holding a race to get the chickens to Isengard. Chicken Tender teams will lead their chickens through squawk inducing territories in the hopes of being the first to reach a place darker than inside a chick's egg! Gather at Sandson's Farm starting at 2:30, race will start at 3pm. The Remediators will play at the Farm during the gathering time. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Teams should try to arrive as close to 2:30 as possible as there will be direction given in case the chickens spawn in a separate layer.
~~~~~~''`~'
Still to be Slotted:
- Chicken Riddle Night: Bring yer best (or worst) chicken riddles. Prizes given for rotten eggs as well as golden.
- Feathered Fashion Flourish: Fashion contest with prizes awarded to both audience and judge favorites. Hosted by the Bounder Museum of Antiquities.
We've had a few more offers on events for the month, but not a cluck has been heard back since we first discussed it, so I'll keep a tight beak 'til I hear more.
~,'~~'`~~~~~~~
Let yer Feathers Fly!
~~~~~~`'~~'~,~~
*((Bywater Time=servertime))
** ((Sandson's Farm is under the Festival Regional umbrella by default, so getting messages out or in can be tricky, and sometimes we get layers at events, so letting us know yer there but can't find us lets us know to send a fellow invite so ya can swap t' our layer.))

Updates:
Moved Chickers n' Seekers to Wednesday of this week. That scheduling was a bit of a fowl up to begin with as I didn't want something competing with your Pub Party, but the leader of the event changed some things around so she could host it Wednesday instead so now we have no conflict-hurra!

I am trying to get word out in the usual channels about the change, but you might want to keep an ear out for Regional Pidgeons during your Pub Party this week just in case someone didn't get notice and wonders where the heck the event ran off to. Tell them an extra ale's on me at the Burd for the fowl up, and invite em over.

More details about Chickengard.

Roz: I sent you a post in game asking if you knew if any of the newly added RTs might fowl up your route for Free Range. I have not had time to look into this, but figured you might have.

Daffy, thanks for the heads up!

I have thought about the new RTs, but I haven't studied the RT maps yet to see where they might cross our Free Range path. Because we stay on roads for most of the run, we should avoid the worst of it, especially since RTs have a very small aggro radius. If we have to siphon off some level 100s to dispatch RTs who are in the way, we can do that! We can also put calls out in chat channels for people to come take care of RTs for us, if necessary. :)

I figured most won't be an issue because they're supposed to be out of the way, but I really haven't had time to keep up with the latest on them, so it was a concern. I did find a wiki page on them, but the newer ones' info is still not complete. Roving Threats via wiki

As to the aggro range, it really depends on the RT and the level of actual Freep folks (haven't test with a chicken yet). I've had some RTs come barreling at me when I'm on lowbies on "dangerous" adventures when, say, Lilje didn't even get their notice being within half the range the lower level was. Ranged RTs are the most notorious at one shotting from a distance without even budging from their spot. *laughs*

I'm sure we'll handle it, and I figured you'd have a plan! (Okies, desperately hoped, but still, ya have one and that's what matters.)

We'll miss them entirely in the Trollshaws, and we don't go into Forochel at all. Based on my experience of Angmar and Misty Mountains, we shouldn't have any difficulty steering clear of RTs on those maps. The big unknowns are Evendim and North Downs, where I have less experience as a RT assailant. I will do research.

The important thing to remember is... while RTs are scary, they're really not any scarier than your average mob encounter on a chicken run. On pretty much any map, any mob will be able to one-shot a chicken, whether it's a RT or a level 12 wolf. With a front line of level 100s clearing the way for the chicken caravan, we should detect nearby RTs before we get too close. And if we're not close, we don't have to worry.

On a chicken run, RTs scare me far far far less than stealth mobs and high concentrations of regular mobs with quick respawn timers.

Me too, Roz, me too.

If I seem hung up on RTs, I didn't mean to sound like Chicken Little. =D

Thankies again.

Is the agro radius for a chicken constant regardless of regional level?

I'm asking because Ashi and I were working on Chickengard details and we couldn't confirm this one detail.

As I understand it, chickens used to have a MUCH larger aggro radius, which was dependent on level. They functioned much the same way as regular characters, who draw higher and higher amounts of aggro when they adventure in areas with wider gaps between their own level and the level of creatures around them.

I think this changed around the time the game went F2P. Now, chickens have a small aggro radius that does not change, no matter where they are.

This all explains why the Take the Hobbit to Isengard events were (in one way) more challenging, because a level 10 hobbit is going to draw more aggro in those areas than a chicken, even though the chicken is only level 1.

From experience, I can say that this is 100% correct. (So says the perma 10 who has acted as the "Bring out yer lynx!" magnet on Rivendell runs...)

My level ten brings all the lynx into view
And they're like, now there's my fix
Damn right, it's better than chicks
I could teach you but I've pie to chew

I know you want it
That thing that makes me
What the lynx go crazy for
They lose their minds
The way I shine
I think it's time

La la la la la
Tortoise stone
La la la la la
The lynx are waiting
