CHICKENGARD:
A Race to Isengard
for Truly Plucky Chickens!

2:30 pm to 5 pm servertime
Sunday, August 30, 2015

For all Plucky Chickens!

Hosted by Courserrim & Friends
Welcoming music by the Remediators

Meet at Sandson’s Farm, The Shire, Landroval
Race Start Time: 3:00 pm
Finish Line: The first step to the entrance of the Tower of Orthanc

Which plucky Chicken will be the lucky one to reach the steps of the Tower of Orthanc first? That Chicken will win a fabulous prize of nine companions (a variety of cosmetic pets from Roving Threats, Osgiliath, Gondor, and festivals) because, of course, Chickens like to talk with other creatures!

Plucky Chickens should seek Helping Companions and Tenders to escort them on this perilous journey. Any route to Isengard may be taken. Any stratagems and other gimmicks employed by the Plucky Chicken and its friends may be used (including external communications, or other tricks to help navigate). Plucky Chickens should expect the way to be obstructed by great dangers. Watch out for frying pans.

Candidates for the Chickengard prize should begin gathering at Sandson’s Farm at 2:30 pm. Instructions will be reviewed at 2:45 pm. A roster of Plucky Chickens will be recorded, then session play should begin within 5 minutes of 3:00 pm. The race will begin promptly at 3:00 pm. Straggling chickens may begin shortly after, with the hope of overtaking Chickens down the road, but please send a /tell to Bredhe to be added to the roster before entering session play.

It is recommended that you be at least eligible for Free Range, in order to get a maximum of 8 hours session play time. If you have not completed the regional quests, choose one of the two-hour quests, such as the Rivendell run.

Only one Plucky Chicken will win!

Third Marshal Ashigaru Trecalia will serve as judge. The judge’s decision will be final. There will be no Court of Appeals. Once a chicken reaches the steps, the race is finished.

The Extra-Fine Chicken Scratchings: Whether going solo, in mixed groups, or in kinship groups, all Plucky Chickens are welcome to race! Please send IMs or in-game mail to Bredhe if you have questions.

I am SO signing up for this. Any other CH chickens want to join me and make it a team effort?

I want to apologize that I didn't get to visit even for a short while at the Pub Party last night. Before I even fully loaded in game last night, there was a ring ding on the doorbell and what I had hoped would be a small tenant issue turned into one of those "Oh, this will take a while", and I missed everything. :*(

If you have any screenies, please let me know as I would like to add at least one to our MoTC thread on the Landy subforum.

Miss Daffy, no worries! Unfortunately, I did not take any screenies (my graphics are too bad). But maybe someone else did?

We did post the content of our collaborative chicken story in the Word by Word thread. :)

The collaborative story is an extra large eggsample of how great ya folks are.

I put a reminder about the Mama Hen Free Range guide in the MotC thread on the Landy subforum. I'm sure we'll still have a few folks show up without a goldie, but I figure hopefully by posting it now, at least some will get the rest of the runs done in time, especially since we have the Rivendell run on Friday.

If Andrew Wyeth ever painted Chickens in Middle-Earth, I bet it would look like this...

A much smaller version of this is on my Amon Hen compilation, but it really is a beautiful sight to see for me in all its larger glory.

In case folks don't know, I've been posting images from MotC at the Bounder Bulletins in our Gallery (We have a Chicken Room), and also on the MotC thread on the Landy subforums.

Carmelitta made it safely to the last of her destinations thanks to the honest to gosh good yolks who stayed up and watched over her.

She said many, many thankies and made many hugs and added names to her friends list. She's happy to help with future runs as a way of returning the favor.

(And if I spelled her name wrong, I'm sorries. Brain is mush right now.)

Thank you everyone for participating in our 5th (5th?) Free Range chicken run, and the second annual run held as part of Month of the Chicken. We successfully led 19 chickens to complete the run. Hurray! We have 19 new Crossers of Roads on the server!

Fried Chickens:

Ali -- Disconnect right before the Last Bridge... ARRRRRGHHASJFLAUTHMLHJGQ
Dandalyn -- Disconnect in Ered Luin
Fayeh -- Too-long AFK in Ered Luin caused an auto-logout
Fortissimo -- Slain in the High Moor after getting separated from the group due to lag
Gennyrose -- Slain in Evendim while trying to catch up after a late start.

A huge thank you to all tenders! Especially Mirkir, Ethlossoth, Daffodillia, and all hunters and captains who worked extra hard during transition-travel times.

Big thanks also to those tenders who went the extra mile to try to track down lonely chickens who got separated from the group, or who started late and needed help catching up.

Thanks to Anselerda for staying at the Duillond chicken nest with Fayeh until her AFK auto-logout, just in case she would have made it back in time to continue the run.

A grateful shoutout to all tenders who stayed late to help Carmelitta finish the run (she started late, and missed a few of the first stops in Evendim).

Thanks also to Ethlossoth for staying late and helping Wrenlhin backtrack to Bree to pick up the Prancing Pony chicken stone she missed during the run because she was too busy jumping on Zedrockk's head when we went through Bree the first time. /mock /tease /poke /wink <3 (We're never going to let you live that down, dearie!)

I noticed that we had much more difficulty with lag and disconnects this time than in the past. I hope it was merely bad luck, or--if it was a product of server difficulties--then Turbine's upcoming new upgrades to the servers will solve these issues for future runs. It's no fun losing a chicken because of lag or disconnects!
